Criminal Injuries Compensation Claims
Applications to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority as a result of a crime of violence must
be made within two years of the date of the incident causing the injury. Applications will only be considered outside this period where it is considered in the
particular circumstances it is reasonable and in the interests of justice to do so.
Special cases
Children
The three year time limit commences once the child has attained the age of 18.
People Suffering From Mental Incapacity
The three year time limit does not commence until the person ceased to be
mentally incapacitated.
The moral therefore is do not delay in contacting us for advice even if you think your claim is outside the relevant time period as this may not be in itself fatal.
Assault
Where you decide to sue your attacker
personally, the claim must be brought within 6 years. |
