“In fact I would like to see the system changed so they can get far more compensation than is allowed under the current system. The
maximum award at the moment for criminal injuries is £500,000. “That may seem a huge amount but it’s not
very much when you consider the injuries they’ve sustained and how difficult their lives will be in the future. The victims would receive far more if they had received similar injuries in a road accident or in an
incident at work.” But Mr
Scott said that while he applauded the efforts being made to help the bombing
victims as quickly as possible, it shouldn’t be at the expense of other people who have already been waiting several years.
“The government should bring in more staff to deal with the sudden rush of extra claims, not just push everyone else to the back of the queue. “Some of my clients have suffered terrible injuries in vicious and often frenzied attacks. Some may never fully
recover. They should not be forced to wait even longer for what it rightfully theirs.”
